Already well-known for their balance and character, our wines are both smooth and crisp. Our "terroir" produces smooth tannins that become rounder thanks to a skillful choice of oak barrels for ageing. Our wines have evolved over 17 vintages to become beautifully balanced. This is as a result of gradual changes in our grape variety proportions and also through our work on organic production.
What a beautiful inheritance ! But there was so much to do at the beginning. Mille Roses was re-established in 1999 then we set about renovating every building over the years and also planting several plots with vines. « … In addition to the existing land, we purchased 3 plots of vines right next to the Château. This tremendous terroir is located just between Château Giscours and Château Cantemerle, two « Grands Crus Classés »… . Sophie and David have produced organic wines since 2010. Why organic ? « The arrival of our children changed our view of the world. »
« La terre que nous envie la terre entière (the land that the people in every land envy)": an excellent phrase that reveals how much the entire world is envious of our high quality soils. At the end of the quaternary era, when large glaciers melted they left gravelly soil. The personality of our wines is strongly linked to our soil. It provides sufficient water to the plants throughout the year : nature’s own drainage system helps us harvest a perfectly mature grape.
After hand-picking our grapes, all the different grape origins (appellation, grape varieties, different plots of vines,...) are vinified separately in numerous tanks of differing volumes in our vat-house. Next door is our cool and quiet cellar. It holds 200 oak barrels, where our wines gently age.
They are an authentic reflection of this very famous southern-Médoc terroir that we deeply respect. Do our wines also express our own style ? We hope they do! But our aim is not to smother the authentic character. Wines from Mille Roses are already known to be precise and well-balanced and also rich and clean.
